Prayer Square (garter stitch cross and border on stockinette background) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Materials: -- Loops & Threads Woolike sock yarn (size 1), or any yarn of your choice -- two dpns or straights, US #1 (2.25mm) or size appropriate for your yarn -- two additional needles (optional): one slightly larger, one slightly smaller -- tapestry needle CO 21 st, using long-tail cast-on (9" tail for Woolike yarn) and larger needle The edge stitches are treated specially to create a chained edge, and are not counted in the row-by-row pattern below. For every row (both RS and WS), slip the first st knitwise, and purl the last st. But on the final row, instead of purling the very last st, slip it purlwise (with yarn in back) to make a nicer corner.
