Also known as Aran, this is a style traditionally used for wool garments worn by crews on fishing boats. In this class you will learn three stitch patterns commonly used in this style, enough to make this cozy hat: double seed stitch, simple cables, and bobbles. You will also learn how to make a swatch for knitting in the round, as we will practice the stitches on a swatch before starting the actual hat. Prerequisite skills:Cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, work in the round.

Materials:

  • About 4 oz. of worsted-weight yarn, preferably in a light color
  • Size US 8 (5.0 mm) needles: 16" circular and set of double-points
  • Cable needle
  • 6 stitch markers
  • Row counter or pencil
